A year and a half after closing, I’ve definitely discovered the joy that is making our house a home. I didn’t know it would become such a passion and I’m sure social media is partly to blame for that, but I am loving this process!
When we decided to move to Dallas in 2019, neither Reid nor I had been to the area (except for one quick work meeting for me). We crowd sourced our community and decided to spend a weekend finding an apartment in Grapevine, a suburb outside of Dallas. It ended up being the perfect location for us to meet new friends and experience the luxuries of Texas apartment living. Everything here seems to have a pool and be brand new! Our gorgeous corner balcony unit had both sunrise and sunset views and we were the first to live in it. While I loved all of my Chicago apartments, I really felt like this was the best it gets. Another perk was that it was only a few minutes from DFW airport and at the time, I was traveling weekly for work.
It took me some time to adjust here. We had left our family, friends, and routines for a totally new place. After about 6 months, though, I was ready to make the next move and put down some roots. We casually visited a model home on December 15th and went under contract less than a month later on January 10th. It snowed that day, a rarity in Dallas, and I took it as a sign from Chicago that we were meant to be here.
I knew I wanted a 5 bedroom, 2-story home with a big open kitchen. Reid took charge of the financial details like tax rates and mortgage payments. We found a reputable, high quality builder with impeccable customer service and satisfaction, and searched the floor plans for the right fit. We were able to find a model of our floor plan in another town and when we walked in, we knew it was the one. Building a Highland Home in Flower Mound checked all the boxes for us.
We made our design center selections and then broke ground in March 2020. We started visiting the site every other day to get out of the house after we both started working from home. Closing day came quick – September 18 – and we celebrated this huge accomplishment. To this day, we feel so fortunate to have experienced almost no delays and actually call this place home.
That’s the short version. 🙂 We are taking our sweet time filling rooms, walls, and shelves with our style of living. Casa Farrington is a little traditional, a little bold, and quickly turning into my favorite adventure.
